WHAT IS EDQT?
-
Physical Education Through Risk Management

EDQT is a youth program designed to nurture confidence, creativity, resilience and community through the lens of risk management at the skatepark. EDQT offers an innovative approach to physical education by encouraging youth to take incremental risks, learn through self expression and by providing an inspiring curriculum that engages all skill levels. Whether a participant is stepping onto a BMX bike for the first time or already comfortable at the skatepark, EDQT meets every student exactly where they are.

At the heart of the EDQT program is a unique curriculum that blends movement-based learning with real-world risk-taking. An incremental approach that empowers kids to push themselves—learning to assess their limits, overcome fear, and build discipline. It’s not about being the best; it’s about finding inspiration from our environment and our creativity.

Core to the program is risk management—not just in terms of preventing injuries, but in cultivating decision-making, self-awareness, and accountability. Students learn to navigate risk in both their physical actions and social interactions. By framing every trick, challenge, or game as a question rather than a command—“Do you feel ready for this?” or “What do you think would happen if…?”—EDQT teaches youth to become thoughtful risk-takers who take ownership of their choices.

Beyond the bike or board, EDQT introduces participants to essential community-building and creative skills. Students are taught skatepark etiquette, emphasizing respect, flow, communication, and inclusion. They learn to film and edit videos, giving them a voice and a platform to express their creativity. Through bike maintenance workshops, they become hands-on problem solvers, gaining mechanical skills and pride in taking care of their gear.

EDQT also fosters emotional growth and social development. Many students who struggle in traditional sports or school settings thrive in the EDQT environment, where movement is non-competitive, peer support is encouraged, and failure is reframed as part of the learning process. Coaches act more like mentors than instructors, helping kids set and reflect on personal goals and celebrate small wins. The result is a culture of inclusion and growth, where students build confidence not only in their physical abilities, but in their capacity to learn, lead, and create.

In a world where youth are often overprotected or under-challenged, EDQT offers a middle path—one that trusts kids with calculated risks, fuels their natural curiosity, and surrounds them with tools and mentorship to grow. It’s not just a program—it’s a movement designed to help the next generation explore, develop, question, and tinker their way toward a more empowered future.
